Rip-Rapped Open Channel

Due to landfilling operations in the west lobe of the quarry, the ground elevation of the west lobe is substantially higher than the ground elevation of the east lobe. As a result, flood water that enters the quarry will flow through the west lobe, through the keyway, and into the east lobe of the quarry. A riprapped open channel is used to convey stormwater through the west lobe. The channel has a 30 foot bottom width, a 70 foot top width and is 10 feet deep. The channel alignment minimized excavation through the existing landfill and minimizes the potential for erosion and settlement problems.
