Public Involvement Overview

Public involvement is essential in developing a Stormwater Ordinance that meets the community’s needs and desires. Through public meetings and the project Web site, this communication effort will provide information to the public and offer them a chance to comment on key issues.

Throughout the development of the Ordinance, open lines of communication will be maintained with the public using several methods and tools. This will allow people to provide feedback during the process.

The multifaceted public involvement program includes the following elements:

Steering Committee: This team includes representatives of DuPage County, municipal representatives, and industry representatives and is overseeing the development of the new ordinance.

DuPage Mayors and Managers Intergovernmental Relations Committee: The DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference is an association of cities and villages located in DuPage County, Illinois. Founded in 1962, the Conference represents 36 member municipalities. Its primary purpose is to facilitate intergovernmental discussion and cooperation between its municipal members, county, regional, state and national governmental bodies, local businesses and other organizations working on matters of interest to local government. Several consultation meetings will be held with this entity at key junctures of the update.

Municipal Engineers: Discussion and consultation for the ordinance update will take place at the monthly municipal engineers meetings, in which municipal engineers, municipal administrators, and other elected officials within the municipalities currently meet regularly to discuss issues relevant to the existing ordinance. 

Public Meetings: Throughout the design process, there will be outreach meetings to present information to the public and offer the community an opportunity to provide feedback. Notification of public meetings will be posted to this Web site.

Draft Ordinance Public Review Period: Once the draft ordinance has been developed, there will be a public review period. The draft ordinanace will be posted on this website.  

Quarterly Newsletter: A quarterly newsletter will aso be developed as part of the Ordinance update process and will be posted on this website.

Web site: The project Web site, http://ec.dupageco.org/StormWaterUpdate, is an up-to-date source of project information. On this site you will have an opportunity to review the latest blog postings, review comments and provide comments. To provide comments, click on the Provide us your Comments link on the left menu and follow the instructions. Public comments will be addressed through periodic postings on the blog.
