Project Overview

IMG_2958DuPage County is in the process of re-evaluating and updating its existing Stormwater Ordinances to bring them up-to-date and to comply with changes in the development and regulatory landscapes. DuPage County is now experiencing more redevelopment than development projects. Federal and state mandates now require stormwater based ordinances on existing developments, which do not readily fit into the County’s existing ordinance structure.

A steering committee comprised of representatives of DuPage County, municipal representatives, and industry representatives are overseeing the development of the new ordinance. The development process includes several steps. The first step is to survey permitees under the existing ordinance to gain insight into what works well and what does not from the standpoint of obtaining a permit.  Another important step is the review of select ordinances around the country to determine if aspects of their programs are suitable for inclusion in the updated countywide stormwater management ordinance for DuPage County.  The steering committee will oversee the preparation of a draft and final Countywide Stormwater and Floodplain Ordinance update for adoption.

Public Participation includes meetings with Municipal Engineers, the DuPage County Board Members and Commissioners of  the Forest Preserve District, the DuPage Mayors and Managers Intergovernmental Relations Committee, as well as public meetings where there will be opportunities to provide comments. Please see the Public Involvement page for more details.
